Like Lugol's solution, very high concentrations of iodine as in Iodoral can work well for treating hyperthyroidism.

Note: the amounts used in Lugol's and Iodoral are in mg and are much higher than the amounts in food or multivitamins. The minimum requirement for iodine is 75-150 mcg and Dr. Dach explains nicely how the higher amounts inhibit the production and release of thyroid hormone. Note: this remedy doesn't work for toxic multinodular goiter.
