Welcome to The Q&A with Elaine Moore. Registered members are invited to ask any question of Elaine Moore on autoimmune diseases, Graves' disease, other thyroid diseases and subconditions, laboratory work, traditional and complementary medicine, triggers and environmental influences, thyroid and immune disorders in pets and animals, and other relevant areas of inquiry.

more labs

I just wrote you the other day with labs anf info from the endo that my thyroid might be "burning out" He had said that if the labs from that day (6 days after my last labs) came back even slightly more hypo he was going to have me stop the meth. Well, I called today and got the results, but he said to stay on the same meth dose (5mg/day) because he thinks I am stable (even though I feel way hypo)

Here are the labs (the one from this week first, last week second) Notice the ranges are slightly different since they were from different labs. What do you think (again these are less than 1 week apart)?

TSH 1.17 (.34-4.82) down from 1.54 (.34-5.60)

FT4 .62 (.70-1.80) from .64 (.58-1.64)

FT3 2.1 (2.0-4.9) down from 2.9 (2.0-3.5)

Hi Laura,

Clearly, your methimazole dose is too high. Your FT4 is below range and FT3 is barely within range. When levels are below range or even within range but too low for your body's needs, the methimazole dose needs to be lowered. A dose of 2.5 might work better. Best to you, Elaine
