Hi,
I wasn't aware that a vaccine for hepatitis C was available, but if it is, like any vaccine, it can stimulate your immune system. This would cause added risk for autoimmune hepatitis. Having GD and AIG isn't a risk factor for autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). I think what your doctor means is that autoimmune diseases like AIH are more likely to occur in people with other autoimmune disorders, which you have. Only rarely does AIH occur with these other conditions. AIH is sometimes seen in people who have had viral hepatitis. If you work in healthcare you'd need to have a hepatitis B vaccine, and if you were traveling to a foreign country where hepatitis A was endemic you might consider a hepatitis A vaccine. But in general, vaccines are over-used and are thought to contribute to the high rate of autoimmune diseases seen in healthcare workers and teachers who are required to have hepatitis B vaccines. Best to you, Elaine
