immunoglobulin and low dose naltrexone?

Hi,

I've been diagnosed with Thyroid Eye Disease, which is showing up as puffiness under the eyes and double vision. My thyroid bloodwork shows up normal but the MRI showed swollen eye muscles and that confirmed the doc's dx. I will be starting IVIG treatment this week (aug 20) and we will be doing a treatment for one day, 1x month, for three months. I had heard about LDN from a friend and I have just received my order of a 30-day supply. Is it OK to do both at the same time, or is it better to wait for the three months of IVIG treatment, then follow with LDN if necessary?  Many thanks,

Lynne, Washington DC

Re: immunoglobulin and low dose naltrexone?

Hi Lynne,

I answered your email but I'll reiterate here that you can take LDN and IVIG together, and you seem to have euthyroid Graves' disease. Still, since hypothyroidism causes eye puffiness (periorbital edema) and TSH receptor antibodies can falsely decrease the TSH level, look at TSH closely to make sure you're not hypothyroid. 10% cases of TED occur in hypothyroidism.

Best, Elaine
