I thought these results were normal????

Hi Elaine, I was wondering if you could have a quick look at this for me and let me know what you think.

I have recently gone to the Drs with a weight loss of 20 Ibs, despite eating same as usual (I lost this weight in 6 weeks and it is still coming off).
More frequent bowel movements.
Hot flashes.
An interal tremor ALL of the time (this is my worst symptom!!!)
Feeling agitated and tired and just not myself.

Also an overall feeling of weakness.

The Dr ran some thyroid tests and has referred me to a Thyroid Consultant because he said my FT3 and FT4 is on the higher range of the scale and because my mum and my brother both have graves disease he feels it should be looked into.

Now I don't know much about this sort of thing, but I would have said my levels for thyroid looked ok because I am within levels for my TSH and only just outside for the others : The tremor has got considerably worse since I had these bloods taken (I had them taken about 8 weeks ago):-

TSH 1.27 (0.4 - 4)
FT4 19.7 (8 - 19)
FT3 6.8 (2 - 6)

Am I missing something or could this be what is causing the problem. I have been given some propanolol in the meantime to help with the tremor.

Hi Laura,

In early Graves disease, if your thyroid levels rise suddenly, they'll show up as elevated and abnormal before TSH has a chance to fall. This doesn't happen often, but it seems to be what's occurring here. Thyroid hormone is very potent, and changes, especially when a sudden rise occurrs, are more likely to cause noticeable symptoms.

Propranolol is perfect for reducing tremor, cardiac symptoms, and any symptoms of anxiety. Your doctor may first want to run a TSI and/or some other tests to confirm that you have Graves' disease before starting more specific therapy. Best, Elaine
