Elaine, I want to thank you for all your help the last few months.  While being diagnosed with mild hashi's, having had graves and now having high TPO antibodies, we just couldn't attribute the severity of my symptoms while the thyroid numbers remained normal.  It turns out to be lyme disease.  Very disappointed as I was tested back in 6/06 and misinformed by the doctor.  Apparently, there is a huge discrepancy in the "negative" results by the labs.  However, thank god I finally found a doctor who would listen to me and insisted something else was going on.  Hopefully the thyroid will continue to behave while I get a handle on this.  Thanks again.  You were actually right on the money suggesting other reasons for elevated TPO and the fact that you didn't think it was the hashi's.

Hi Jean,

The tests for Lyme disease can be confusing because certain tests are used to diagnose current active infection and some for showing an infection you had in the past. Some of the newer tests using DNA technologies are also much more sensitive.

I'm glad you finally got a correct diagnosis. Now you should be able to heal. You might be interested in reports showing that low dose naltrexone (LDN) is an effective therapy for Lyme Disease, especially when it's used with beta-lactam antibiotics. Dr. Kenneth Singleton's book on Lyme Disease has some good information on this. Best, Elaine
