Welcome to The Q&A with Elaine Moore. LDN & TgAb

Hi,

I would like to know if LDN can completely reverse Hashimoto? I've been taking LDN for couple of months now and the TgAb have come down from over 700 to about 80 in one lab & to 280 in another lab.

At the beginning I had to reduce the dose of Synthroid but lately it seems to be stable.

Would the TgAb eventually disappear completely? If yes, what is the time frame that I can expect this to happen? Does the fact that I didn't need to reduce the Synthroid any further indicate that the LDN has no more effect on the antibodies?

Hi,

Regarding your Hashimoto's, you already have some thyroid cell destruction from thyroglobulin antibodies having destroyed thyroid tissue. LDN can reduce production of these antibodies and this would cause future thyroid cell destruction, whereas right now with antibody destruction, the rate of cell destruction is decreased. Eventually some cells can regenerate and you may end up needing a lower dose of replace hormone again.

In other words, LDN will do more towards stopping disease progression and it can help restore some thyroid tissue as a natural part of the healing process. Whether this will cause you to eventually regain complete thyroid function depends on the extent of your thyroid cell damage and how well you regenerate new cells. Best, Elaine
