Welcome to The Q&A with Elaine Moore. The integrative doc also said, when a person has gluten sensitivity they are often sensitive to other grains because of a referral pattern that happens. Like plain rice tricks off the immune system because it sort of looks like gluten, so she said she thought it best all grains be avoided strictly for 3 months. But she said wild game every once in a while was fine...

I'm not sure what I think about that yet. I think it's different for everyone. Definitely I'm believing digestion has a lot to do with this problem, but for one person where it may be grains, another it may be protien or dairy, and another candida. The trick is finding the good person who has the tenacity and where with all to help us find what our individual problems are triggered by. Do you agree Elaine?

Hi Monica,

I agree that we all have our own triggers. However, wheat protein is a fairly common trigger because there's a similarity to this protein and thyroid antigens, thus the autoimmune confusion. Wheat protein is in so many different foods because it's inexpensive, and changes in processing have made it a true foreign antigen.

If you were going to experiment with one thing, I'd eliminate gluten first (in wheat, rye, and barley) and I'd also eliminate sugar, especially high fructose corn syrup because of its detrimental effects on immune function.

It would be difficult to find a doctor who would work with you on finding every trigger although some allergen tests like RAST testing would be helpful. It's the kind of thing, though, that with persistence you could make some good deductions with using a rotation diet. Best, elaine
