Hi Elaine,
To recap, I was diagnosed with graves in 2001 and have been on and off medication since, I went into a remission for a few years and came back onto medication April 2009, started taking PTU arounf June when I got pregnant. I had a baby in March,2010, I have since continued on PTU to breastfeed( I have been on 50mg od ptu once daily since the beginning of the pregnancy.) This past week though I had to go to the hospital following an rapid heart palpitations and high blood pressure. While there I was told my labs were all coming back normal for my thyroid. However my triponin levels were slightly elevated which led them to believe I might be having a heart attack. However when they did all the follow up they found my heart to be fine. I was given an x-ray, ekg, ultrasound of the heart, and cvt angiogram and cardiac stress test. All normal. I was also given ultrasound of the vascular system to check for clots. All came back normal. While there I was given metropolol to lower my blood pressure and heart rate. However since leaving I ve been on no medication other then the ptu and prenatals I usually take. I went to my regular provider and just had more labs. They also came back normal. I think I may be having other hyper symptoms though, like more hunger and weight loss. Any thoughts?

Hi,
Troponin is a good cardiac marker because it's the first component to rise in heart attack. However, this test has some drawbacks including falsely elevated results. Besides heart disease, troponin can be elevated in sepsis and kidney problems. See this link.
Symptoms such as yours have been known to occur in patients with Graves' disease who react to certain foods such as garlic or a wide variety of foods that they're sensitive to. I suspect your doctor will monitor your heart rate and blood pressure to see if there's a problem, and I suspect your troponin was a falsely elevated result. best, elaine
