Hi Elaine, I lasted posted to you about subclinical hypothyroidism.

My levels in May were TSH 0.52 (0.38-5.5) Free T4 11.8 (11.5-22.7)

My endo told me results were normal and to see my gp.

I did this and my gp started me on 50mg levo.

5 weeks after starting levo my results were TSH 0.06 Free T4 14.7.

My endo told me to stop the levo.

I told him all of my symptoms, hair loss, tiredness, fast heartbeat (especially after eating) palpitations, dizziness, weakness and heavy periods.

He told me palpitations and fast heartrate were nothing to do with my thyroid and wanted me to have further investigations.

I had my calcium checked, vit B12, FBC, ferritin, steroid levels, fasting glucose and celiacs disease.

I went for my steroid level done at the hospital, I was chatting to the nurse and told her my symptoms, she asked if I wanted her to check the blood results for me.

She said everything was fine apart from my ferritin, which was low and my endo was very good and would treat me when I got to see him.

I was curious to what the actual results were and called my endos secretary, she told me my level was 14 (32-322) everything else was fine, she would speak to endo about it and call me back.

Just had a call back endo says everything is normal, I asked what about my ferritin? She repeated everything was fine and no action needed to be taken.

I've suffered from these symptoms for over a year, could a ferritin results of 14 be causing me these problems?

What do I do now?

I'm tempted to go in tomorrow ask for a print off of all my results and go elsewhere for some help. My gp or ask for a second opinion.

All I know is I'm married with a house to run, 3 children to take care of the youngest being just 3 years old, I keep crying out for help, but, noone seems willing to help me.

Where do I go from here?

Many Thanks Elaine

Diane x

Hi Diane,

I think what your doctors aren't seeing is that TSH receptor antibodies falsely lower TSH. Your FT4 on 50 mcg levothyroxine is still on the low side. And a low ferritin is seen in hypothyroidism. This article describes how you can improve ferritin but the real problem here stems from hypothyroidism. Best, Elaine
