Hey Elaine, i asked my mom she said she was done with her menstrual perioid around 2 weeks before getting the blood tests.. so in that case is something wrong? Also, do you think the major body aches she complains about having recently is only because of her low vitamin D levels? i mean her back hurts she has trobule sitting on the floor and going up the stairs at times, her writs are weak she tends to drop heavy things which is very unlike her. Also, pls suggest some vitamins that she should keep taking all her life to keep her healthy? or the vitamins she really needs for cdle and to be safe from sle or any such complications? Also, should she still avoid sunlight , i suggested she should sit out in the garden to get natural vitamin D. bad idea?Lastly, she has slowly tapered down her cortison dose for cdle, thats ok right ? My mom told me to give you her regards :) :p

Hi Mehvish,

Since your mom is still having menstrual periods, some fluctuations in her platelet level can be expected. I wouldn't worry about any of her lab results.

Low vitamin D levels can contribute to bone loss because vitamin D helps regulate calcium. The vitamin D will help. Another supplement that can help with muscle weakness is CoQ10. She should see improvement in muscle strength using 30-60 mg of CoQ10 daily. A good multivitamin can also be helpful.

If your mother doesn't notice a flare of symptoms from heat or sunlight, then sitting outside in the sun is a good idea for increasing vitamin D. If she avoids the hours between 11am and 2 pm when the sun is hottest, she should do fine. Tell your mom I wish her well. Best, Elaine
