Researchers at Warwick Medical School have found that high doses of thiamine (300 mg daily) decreased urine microalbumin levels by as much as 41 percent. The placebo-controlled study was conducted on 40 patients with type 2 diabetes.
By the end of the 3-month trial, 35 percent of test subjects had microalbumin levels in the normal range. Thiamine deficiency has also been linked to liver disease in patients with alcoholism.
