A recent article in the Autoimmune and Related Disorders In Focus newsletter reminded patients to use the Cochrane Database for their health questions. Along with this reminder, I wanted to mention some of my other favorite resources.
The Cochrane Database Review lists clinical trials and research studies. While the database offers a limited review of alternative medicine, it's a good place to review new medications, especially for patients with autoimmune connective tissue disorders.
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine is a more comprehensive resource for evaluating alternative medicine. However, it is limited to NIH-funded trials.
For journal articles and article abstracts on any health topic, Pub Med is the best resource, followed by BioMedCentral and BioMedCentral for Alternative Medicine.
Online thyroid text books include Thyroid Manager and Endocrinology, An Integrated Approach. For information on clinical trials, see the NIH's clinical trials website.
